A look back at May in Secret Zagreb
The start of our season of shared tours
The streets of Zagreb get busy and full of events in May. We like to join the buzz by offering our shared tours with the first weekend in May. This year, we're playing safe with our popular favourite Zagreb Ghosts & Dragons Tour. In addition to that, we are trying out something completely different by offering our The New Shore - Novi Zagreb area walking tour as a shared tour. Many travellers wish to explore that area, and don't know where to start from, or what to look for. A private tour is not always affordable, so we decided to offer you an opportunity to explore this part of the city with other like-minded and curious people who wish to get a taste of the real city. If you're planning to join us for the shared tours, purchase the tickets as soon as you know the dates of your visit because we already sold out some dates.
The New Shore vol. 2 - project
In the past two years, we've been putting emphasis on tours of the Novi Zagreb area. It is a part of our desire to contribute to expanding the interest of visitors to underrated, off the beaten path parts of the town, and help relieve the pressure from mass tourism in the historical city center. For these last two years, we've been receiving support from the City of Zagreb for these efforts. This year in particular, our plan is to publish an alternative guide book of the Novi Zagreb area. It will be an interesting book with contributions from the locals. That's why we run several free tours of Novi Zagreb area for the locals, in Croatian. The first such event this year took place yesterday. Enjoy the photo gallery.

Art at the south shore - a Jane's Walk event
We're still in Novi Zagreb area, this time as a part of a much larger initiative - our Iva Silla hosted a walk as a part of a global movement called Jane's Walk. It's an initiative that celebrates Jane Jacobs, a Canadian who introduced walks guided by citizen as a way for the residents to reclaim their cities. The movement has been active in Croatia for 11 years now thanks to Centar za kulturu Trešnjevka cultural center and Jane's Walk Zagreb. Our Iva participated in the first edition, when she co-hosted the Leafy Zagreb walk with Andrea Pisac of Croatia Honestly. Iva joined again this year, as we were searching for art around the grounds of Zagreb Fair in Novi Zagreb area. It was two hours full of discoveries, as you can see from these photos taken by Saša Martinović and Vanja Radovanović - two organisers and main enthusiasts of the Jane's Walk movement in Croatia.

Secret Zagreb’s year at Love Zagreb – 2025 edition
Can't believe it's already been five years since we've started writing for the Love Zagreb blog with stories from Zagreb locals. The blog is managed by Zagreb Tourism Board. This is an ongoing collaboration, and so far, we've contributed with dozens of articles, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration in 2026. You can find all of our articles in the Untold Stories section. Right now, we're bringing you an overview of what we wrote about this year. Click on the article title or the photo caption to read the full story of each article. The most recent ones come first, and the last one will take you to the beginning of the year.
Carol of the Zagreb Bells
One of the bells of the Zagreb Cathedral, crafted back in 1707, weighed more than 5 tons! Lifting such heavy weights and playing with fire! Sounds like a man’s job. Well, say that to Anna Maria Foresti, who crafted 80 bells herself. She took over her deceased husband’s business in 1735 - and delivered! She wasn’t the only woman bell maker in Zagreb. In fact, it became quite customary for women to take over their husbands’ workshops.

Secret Zagreb’s year at Love Zagreb
Zagreb Tourism Board runs a blog called Love Zagreb with stories from Zagreb locals. Back in 2021, they invited us to write for the new section called Untold Stories. This has been a very enjoyable collaboration for a number of reasons. 2021 was still an insecure year for tourism, and small city touroperators like Secret Zagreb, but this new content gave us a wonderful tool to stay connected with our guests, people interested in visiting Zagreb, and helped us always stay fresh and observing when exploring Zagreb. It has become a fruitful and steady collaboration of 3 years, with more than 60 articles published. The ideas for new posts in the upcoming year are already keeping our Iva entertained. While we're waiting for another Untold Story, let's take a look back at all the articles from 2023. Click on the article title or the photo caption to read the full story.

Now is the time to book a Christmas-themed tour
Are you coming to Zagreb this December? Judging by the inquiries we've been receiving, the season is going to be more than jolly. Zagreb is well known for its major event Advent Zagreb and we have a perfect tour to match it. It's called Zagreb Christmas Carol. Just like the Christmas classic by Charles Dickens, this tour is taking you to the city's curious past, cheerful present, and it even reveals some ways of looking into the future. You will learn about Croatian end-of-the-year traditions, fun winter anecdotes, and even some Zagreb records related to this part of the year. The tour takes place in the old part of the town, which makes it a great alternative to a standard city tour. You will see all the must-sees, but it will be through a special seasonal veil.
Zagreb Christmas Carol is one of our favourite tours, but we can't really do it in spring. That's why the anticipation is growing here at Secret Zagreb with every email we receieve about it. Share the excitemenet with us, and join the tour this December.
